007 First Light is now officially set to launch on May 27, 2026, with developer IO Interactive confirming the updated release window while also announcing a delay for one key platform. The highly anticipated James Bond title will arrive on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S and PC on that date, but the Nintendo Switch 2 version has been pushed back to summer 2026.

The game, which represents a full origin story for the iconic spy, had originally been scheduled for release in March 2026 before being delayed by two months to allow for additional polish and refinement. That revised May 27 date remains intact for most platforms, suggesting development is now in its final stages for those versions.

However, the latest update introduces a split release strategy. While the core versions will launch as planned in late May, the Nintendo Switch 2 edition will now arrive later in the year. Reports indicate the delay is likely tied to optimisation challenges, with developers needing additional time to ensure the game performs to the expected standard on Nintendo’s next-generation hardware.

007 First Light is shaping up to be one of the most ambitious James Bond games in years, marking the first major title in the franchise since 2012’s 007 Legends. Developed using IO Interactive’s Glacier engine, the game takes a fresh approach by focusing on Bond’s early career, showing how he earns his licence to kill rather than portraying him as an already-established agent.

Gameplay is expected to draw heavily from the studio’s experience with the Hitman series, blending stealth, action, and open-ended mission design. Early details suggest players will take on globe-trotting missions, utilise gadgets, and engage in cinematic set pieces, all while navigating a narrative-driven structure that explores Bond’s transformation into a 00 agent.

The staggered release approach is not uncommon, particularly for new hardware. Launching simultaneously across multiple high-end platforms while also supporting a next-generation handheld or hybrid console can present technical challenges, especially for a game of this scale. By delaying the Switch 2 version, IO Interactive appears to be prioritising performance and stability rather than rushing a compromised build to market.

Despite the delay for one platform, anticipation for 007 First Light remains high. The game has been positioned as a major step forward for the Bond franchise in gaming, combining cinematic storytelling with modern gameplay systems. Its May launch window also places it in a relatively strong position within the 2026 release calendar, avoiding direct competition with some of the year’s biggest titles.

As the release date approaches, attention will now turn to final previews and gameplay showcases, which are expected to provide a clearer picture of how the game plays in practice. For now, while Switch 2 players will have to wait a little longer, the majority of platforms are still on track to receive one of the most high-profile action-adventure releases of the year at the end of May.
