A new release date trailer for Remorses has confirmed that the slow-burning horror title will launch on PC on June 2. Set in Rivervalley in 1991, the game sends players into the infamous Westbrook Mansion for an investigation built around witchcraft, disappearances, sanity management and a growing sense of psychological unease.

Remorses follows Jake Lepistow, an investigator from Beaver Hills, Minnesota, who has built a life around chasing legends and supernatural rumours. Until now, those investigations have not forced him to deal with the consequences of what he uncovers. That changes when strange disappearances and renewed rumours of witchcraft lead him towards Rivervalley, a place already marked by unsettling history and local fear.

At the centre of the mystery is Westbrook’s Inheritance Mansion, an abandoned property hidden somewhere in the Rivervalley forest. The townspeople avoid the building because of its reputation and stories surrounding a vengeful witch. For Jake, however, the mansion becomes the focus of an obsession, pulling him deeper into an investigation that appears to blur the line between folklore, psychological pressure and something far more dangerous.

The game’s survival mechanics are built around a simple but unnerving idea: players must open windows to breathe fresh air and maintain their sanity. Ignoring that need can have serious consequences, particularly as a disturbing force begins to interfere with Jake’s mind. Rather than treating fresh air as a minor environmental detail, Remorses makes it one of the player’s key tools for survival, turning movement through the mansion into a constant balancing act.

That mechanic also appears to shape how players approach exploration. Opening windows may provide relief, but planning safe routes through the mansion remains important as the horrors inside take different forms. The developers describe stealth and sanity as central to survival, suggesting players will need to think carefully about when to move, where to go and how long they can remain in dangerous spaces before the pressure becomes too much.

Witchcraft also plays a major role throughout the experience. Players will search for ingredients and attempt to brew a potion against the malevolence haunting the mansion. The blurb frames this process as both a means of resistance and a sign that Jake may not fully understand what he has become involved in. Rather than simply fleeing from the supernatural threat, players must learn enough about it to fight back, even if that knowledge comes at a cost.

Puzzles are another core part of Remorses, with the game featuring a mixture of logic, visual and auditory challenges. These puzzles are tied to uncovering the secrets of Westbrook Mansion and pushing further into the truth behind Rivervalley’s disappearances. The use of auditory puzzles also fits closely with the game’s emphasis on sound design and atmosphere, potentially requiring players to listen carefully rather than simply search for obvious visual clues.

Atmosphere appears to be one of the game’s strongest selling points. Remorses features a fully original soundscape from the sound designer of Outlast and the composer of Visage, two titles strongly associated with modern horror presentation. That detail gives the game an immediate point of interest for horror fans, particularly those who value oppressive audio design, subtle environmental cues and sustained tension over straightforward jump scares.

The setting itself is described as comforting yet unsettling, giving Remorses a slightly different tone from horror games that rely entirely on decay and darkness from the outset. Rivervalley, with its local history, missing people and old rumours of witchcraft, seems designed to feel like a place where something has been wrong for a long time. The 1991 setting also gives the story a period edge, removing it from the modern world while keeping it close enough to feel grounded.

The developers describe Remorses as a heart-aching journey where tension builds gradually. That slow-burn approach suggests a horror experience focused less on constant spectacle and more on dread, investigation and the psychological weight of what Jake discovers. The repeated references to obsession, consequence and sanity point towards a story where the mansion is not just a physical location, but a place that begins to work its way into the investigator’s mind.

For players who enjoy horror built around atmosphere, exploration and vulnerability, Remorses appears to be positioning itself carefully. The fresh-air mechanic gives the game a distinct survival hook, while the witchcraft investigation, potion brewing and puzzle systems add layers beyond simply hiding from threats. Combined with its sound-focused presentation, it could offer a tense and methodical horror experience when it arrives on PC.

With its June 2 release date now confirmed, Remorses is preparing to open the doors of Westbrook Mansion and invite players into a story of disappearances, witchcraft and deteriorating sanity. Jake may have spent his career chasing supernatural stories, but this time the legend appears ready to chase back.
