Deep Rock Galactic: Rogue Core was released for PC in Early Access on 20 May 2026. Developed by Ghost Ship Games and published by Ghost Ship Publishing and Coffee Stain Publishing, the game is a spin-off from Deep Rock Galactic that takes the series’ familiar co-operative mining-and-shooting foundations in a more roguelite direction. Rather than sending players into missions with a fully established loadout from the beginning, Rogue Core starts each run with only the most basic equipment and asks the team to build strength as they go, gathering weapons, upgrades, gear and abilities while the danger steadily increases.
The game returns to Hoxxes, but under far more extreme conditions. Deep mining operations have suddenly gone dark after a mysterious event known as The Grayout, leaving the Deep Rock Galactic Corporation unable to contact its facilities. With conventional measures failing, the company deploys the Reclaimers, an elite security force brought in when situations require more than a standard mining crew. That setup gives Rogue Core a tougher and more combat-focused identity, while still keeping the series’ familiar mix of corporate sci-fi, underground danger, teamwork and hostile alien life.
The roguelite structure is the biggest change. The Grayout Barrier disables most technology on contact, meaning Reclaimers are sent in with little more than a pickaxe before scavenging what they need inside the mining facilities. Weapons, personal upgrades and experimental enhancements are discovered and developed during each mission, creating a sense of growth within the run itself. Instead of relying purely on a preferred class setup or familiar equipment choices, players need to make fast decisions, adapt to what they find and build powerful combinations from the tools available.
That gives Deep Rock Galactic: Rogue Core a different rhythm from the original game. Deep Rock Galactic already had chaotic co-op missions, procedural caves, dangerous creatures and plenty of pressure, but Rogue Core pushes further into escalation and improvisation. Time becomes a constant concern, with the pressure increasing the longer players remain underground. Each dive becomes a balance between risk and reward, as the team decides whether to push deeper, gather more resources, strengthen their builds or prepare for extraction before the situation becomes unmanageable.
The Reclaimers help give Rogue Core its own identity within the wider Deep Rock Galactic universe. They are not ordinary miners, but elite operatives with access to advanced weaponry, cutting-edge equipment and experimental biomedical enhancements. Reclaimer Gauntlets play an important role in combat, while the wider upgrade system encourages players to experiment with lethal combinations as they fight through the depths. The appeal comes from starting each run in a vulnerable state and gradually turning the squad into a far more dangerous force through clever choices and successful teamwork.
Co-operation remains central to the experience. Deep Rock Galactic: Rogue Core is designed for teams of up to four operatives, and the game makes clear that close teamwork is essential. The procedurally generated caves, unpredictable encounters and escalating danger mean that players need to support each other, combine their strengths and react quickly when things go wrong. The new Corespawn enemies add to that sense of threat, described as more aggressive, resilient and intelligent than previous dangers found on Hoxxes. They give the Reclaimers a clear enemy to overcome and help push the game further into survival-focused action.
At the time of writing, Deep Rock Galactic: Rogue Core has a Mostly Positive rating on Steam, and that favourable response is understandable. The game builds on a universe and co-op formula that already have a dedicated following, while giving returning players a new structure based around roguelite progression, build variety, procedural caves and higher-pressure combat. Its Early Access status is also important, because players are responding not only to what is already available, but also to the promise of a game that can grow through updates, balancing, new content and community feedback.
Deep Rock Galactic: Rogue Core is therefore best seen as a more dangerous, more reactive and more progression-driven take on the Deep Rock Galactic formula. It keeps the appeal of descending into hostile caves with a team, fighting overwhelming alien threats and surviving through co-operation, but reshapes that experience around repeated runs and constant adaptation. With character progression, extensive class customisation, endless build combinations and procedurally generated depths, it offers a strong reason to dive, dig, fight and dive again.
