TerraTech Legion was released on 30 April 2026 and is available on PC via Steam and on Xbox Series X|S. Developed by Payload Studios and published by Mythwright, the game builds on the established TerraTech formula while shifting its focus into a faster-paced, combat-driven structure. Rather than continuing as a sandbox experience, this entry introduces a roguelite framework centred on survival against overwhelming waves of enemies.
The premise places players in a galaxy under threat from a rapidly expanding swarm of AI-controlled machines. These bots are described as assimilating everything in their path, creating a clear and immediate objective for players. Taking on the role of a Tech jockey, the player is tasked with constructing vehicles capable of pushing back against this threat, engaging in combat across multiple hostile environments.
At the centre of the experience is the block-based building system, a defining feature carried over from earlier TerraTech titles. Players assemble vehicles using a wide range of components, including weapons, propulsion systems and utility parts. This system allows for extensive customisation, with each build directly affecting how the vehicle performs in combat. The flexibility encourages experimentation, as players adjust their designs to suit different challenges.
Vehicle construction is not just about power, but also about balance and control. The placement of each component influences movement, stability and handling, meaning that design choices have immediate consequences during gameplay. A heavily armed build may offer strong offensive capability, but can also affect manoeuvrability, while lighter configurations may prioritise speed at the cost of durability.
The game introduces multiple playable characters, each offering a different starting point and playstyle. These characters influence how players approach each run, with unique abilities shaping combat strategies. This adds variety to the experience, as players can experiment with different approaches depending on their preferred style of play.
Combat takes place across four distinct planets, each populated with AI bots, structures and escalating threats. As players progress through each environment, they encounter increasingly difficult waves of enemies, alongside outposts and factories that contribute to the overall challenge. Each planet culminates in a boss encounter, providing a structured endpoint within each run.
Progression follows a roguelite format, with players upgrading their capabilities between runs to improve their chances of survival. Despite these upgrades, the game maintains a high level of difficulty, with no checkpoints or traditional campaign structure. This design places emphasis on endurance, skill and adaptation, encouraging players to refine their builds and strategies over multiple attempts.
TerraTech Legion is built around an endless survival loop, where the goal is to last as long as possible against increasingly intense opposition. With no fixed endpoint, the experience is defined by repeated runs and high-score progression, combining creative vehicle building with sustained, high-pressure combat.
