Limited Run Games has unveiled Rugrats: Retro Rewind Collection, a nostalgia-driven compilation bringing six classic titles from the long-running Nickelodeon series back to modern platforms. The announcement continues the publisher’s growing focus on preserving retro games, with this latest project centred on one of the most recognisable children’s franchises of the late 1990s and early 2000s.

The collection bundles together six Rugrats games originally released across PlayStation, Nintendo 64, Game Boy, and Game Boy Advance. These titles span a range of genres and styles, reflecting the experimental nature of licensed games during that era. Among the confirmed inclusions are Rugrats: Search for Reptar, Rugrats: Studio Tour, and handheld releases such as The Rugrats Movie and Rugrats: Castle Capers.

Rather than simply re-releasing the games as they originally appeared, Limited Run is positioning Retro Rewind Collection as a modernised package. The compilation includes a number of quality-of-life improvements designed to make the older titles more accessible, such as rewind functionality, save states, screen filters, and even a built-in music player. These additions have become standard for retro collections in recent years, helping to smooth out some of the frustrations associated with older game design while preserving the original content.

In terms of platforms, Rugrats: Retro Rewind Collection is set to launch digitally on 15 May for both Nintendo Switch and PlayStation 5, with physical editions also planned. As is typical with Limited Run Games releases, physical copies will be available as part of a limited pre-order window running from 1 May through to 31 May. A deluxe edition is also confirmed, featuring additional extras such as a soundtrack, themed packaging and collectible items aimed squarely at fans of the original series.

The choice of Rugrats as the focus of this collection is notable. While the franchise has remained culturally relevant through reruns and reboots, its video game history is often overlooked. During its original run, Rugrats titles were released across multiple platforms, often experimenting with different gameplay formats ranging from platforming to adventure-style exploration. By bringing these games together in a single package, the collection offers a more complete look at how the series was adapted into interactive form during the height of its popularity.

This release also fits into a broader trend of retro revival projects spearheaded by publishers like Limited Run Games. The company has built a reputation for reissuing classic titles with updated features, often combining digital releases with limited physical runs aimed at collectors. Rugrats: Retro Rewind Collection follows that same model, blending preservation with modern accessibility.

With its mix of nostalgia and updated functionality, Rugrats: Retro Rewind Collection is shaping up as both a historical archive and a playable package for modern audiences. Whether revisiting these titles for the first time in decades or discovering them anew, players will soon have the chance to experience a slice of late-90s licensed gaming history when the collection arrives on 15 May.
