A newly released trailer has confirmed that Voice of Belldona will launch on PC via Steam on May 20, bringing with it a dark blend of sci-fantasy storytelling, tactical deckbuilding and shifting battlefield strategy. The upcoming indie title combines cosmic horror themes with mythology-inspired worldbuilding, placing players inside a collapsing universe where divine machines, corrupted technology and mysterious powers collide.

The game’s setting appears intentionally surreal from the outset. According to its official description, humanity once attempted to escape endless warfare by creating a small warrior-like being known as Cheryl, a white-haired god-like entity whose overwhelming social anxiety contrasts sharply with her immense power. Rather than continuing the destruction surrounding her, Cheryl reshapes the barren world into one populated by mythological races and fantastical civilizations while introducing a mysterious force known as The Source. Voice of Belldona takes place within this transformed world, following Cheryl’s story after she is unexpectedly awakened once again.

While the narrative setup leans heavily into fantasy and cosmic imagery, the core gameplay focuses on tactical battles built around deck construction and battlefield positioning. Players will summon allies, control formations and adapt to encounters against robotic enemies, cosmic creatures and Pegasus-like war machines. The developers place a strong emphasis on positioning and timing during combat, suggesting battles rely on more than simply playing cards in sequence.

Unlike many deckbuilding games that lock players into a single combat style, Voice of Belldona allows players to choose between multiple heroes with distinct approaches to battle. The official description specifically references Rinsana and Griza, with one favouring direct aggression while the other focuses more heavily on summons and battlefield control. That variation appears designed to encourage experimentation between runs, with different heroes leading players towards different strategies and card combinations.

Deck progression itself forms a major part of the overall structure. Players gradually expand and alter their card collections through combat encounters and route selections, with each decision capable of reshaping future builds. The developers repeatedly stress the importance of player choice throughout progression systems, with card rewards, paths and combat outcomes all influencing how each run develops. The game also highlights that different combinations and decisions can dramatically alter the direction of a run as players continue pushing deeper into the void.

The structure of the world map also appears designed around unpredictability. Runs take place across shifting routes where events, bosses and rewards can appear in different sequences, meaning players are unlikely to experience identical journeys twice. According to the official description, map decisions carry as much weight as combat itself, with route planning becoming an essential part of progression. Boss encounters can also vary between runs, potentially forcing players to rethink strategies depending on the path taken.

Visually, Voice of Belldona appears to mix dark fantasy aesthetics with futuristic science-fiction imagery. The trailer showcases ruined environments, strange cosmic landscapes and mechanical enemies alongside winged creatures and divine-looking entities. The contrast between corrupted machinery and mythological imagery gives the game a distinctive identity, especially when combined with glowing effects, distorted environments and dramatic combat sequences.

The game’s atmosphere also leans strongly into mystery and existential threat. References to collapsing realities, “The Vortex Zone” and the pursuit of a “True Ending” suggest the narrative contains larger mysteries waiting to be uncovered as players progress deeper into the game’s world. Combined with the shifting maps and evolving builds, the developers appear eager to create an experience where unpredictability remains central to both gameplay and storytelling.

Deckbuilding games continue to evolve through increasingly experimental combinations of strategy systems and narrative presentation. Voice of Belldona appears to follow that trend by blending tactical positioning systems, branching progression and cosmic fantasy storytelling into a single package. With its May 20 Steam release now confirmed, players interested in dark sci-fantasy strategy experiences will not have long to wait before stepping into its unstable and rapidly collapsing universe.
